MEET NEIL THOMAS

Neil Thomas, a Morehead Scholar graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Michigan Law School, brings an extensive trial practice experience. We started with a large law firm in New York City and then returned to Chattanooga, ascending to the Circuit bench for twenty years, where he presided over more than 200 jury trials. Those trials involved complex business disputes, medical malpractice and defective products.  Prior to his experience on the bench, his extensive jury trial experience included a defense verdict in what was then the longest jury trial in the history of the 6th Federal Circuit. That jury trial experience, both on and off the bench, earned an AV rating from his fellow attorneys. While on the bench, Neil mediated over 50 cases.

In his community involvement, Neil has been President or Founder for more than ten organizations, including the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Rotary Club, Leadership Chattanooga, the Brock-Cooper American Inns of Court, Junior Achievement, Friends of Chickamauga and Moccasin Bend National Parks and the Salvation Army. In his professional involvement, Neil served on the Council of the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association and founded the Litigation Section of the Tennessee Bar Association. Neil is a Fellow of the American, Tennessee and Chattanooga Bar Foundations and is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. He is extensively published with numerous lectures in his tenure. Neil is married with four children and six grandchildren.
