Albert Secor joined Thomas & Thomas with over 50 years of practicing law with local law firms and private practice, including Trust Department management within local banking systems. He graduated Emory University with a B.A. Degree in Accounting; graduated Emory University with a Juris Doctor Degree with concentration in Taxes and Corporations; and graduated New York University with a LLM in Taxation. His focus has been estate planning, administration of trust accounts, promoting estate and trust services to clients, lawyers, accountants, life underwriters, and Courts.
His extensive career experience includes authoring ‘Tennessee Probate’, a guide for lawyers and legal assistants in the administering of probate estates and Tennessee Elder Law a guide for lawyers and legal assistants in assisting clients with preparations for their elder years. An active teacher, Albert served as an adjunct professor in the Cleveland State Community College legal assistant program, and adjunct professor at UTC. He authored seminar materials used throughout the United States on the preparation of US Estate Tax and US Fiduciary Income Tax returns and on estate planning and the drafting of various types of will and trusts, and taught the seminars. He is a frequent speaker throughout Tennessee at estate planning councils and bar association programs as well as occasional presentations at the Duke Estate Planning Conference. He and a group of similarly qualified lawyers from across Tennessee have been instrumental in enacting legislation to modernize Tennessee’s laws in the areas of wills, trusts, probate, guardianship and conservatorship and taxes resulting in Tennessee being a leading jurisdiction for these matters in the country.
Albert holds various memberships: American, Tennessee and Chattanooga Bar Associations; ACTEC (elected in 1981); Tennessee Probate Study Committee; and Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga. He has received various honors including being named as a Trust and Estate Lawyer in Chattanooga, as noted in ‘The Best Lawyers in America’ originally published in 1983; and founding member and Chair of Tennessee Probate Study Committee.
Personally, he supports several charity groups and publicly funded organizations. He is married, has one step-son and resides in the Hixson area.
